Saratoga

What a high-end home in Saratoga really takes

Saratoga lots are large, often sloped and full of protected trees, and new two-story homes go through City design review, frequently at the Planning Commission. Hillside sites can need grading exceptions, and every protected tree on the plan affects layout, cost and schedule.

Harrod Built is a family-run, licensed general contractor (CSLB #986950). We build to your architect’s plans or design-build with our studio, and we price the work from the drawings early so the design stays within the budget you set.

Our office is in Paso Robles, and the finished homes shown on this site are in San Luis Obispo and Monterey counties. What we bring to Saratoga is the same team, process and craftsmanship you see in those homes.

What to know before building in Saratoga

Design review

New homes and large additions go through design review with the City of Saratoga. We price your plans before the hearing so there are no surprises after approval.

Grading

Hillside homes can exceed the normal grading limit and need an exception. Earthwork, walls and drainage are priced from the civil plans, not guessed.

Protected trees

Arborist reports and tree protection fencing are part of the job from day one. We schedule around them.

Fire rules

Many Saratoga hillside lots sit in fire hazard zones. Read building in a fire hazard zone.

Contract type

Fixed price or cost-plus changes how risk and allowances work. See fixed price vs cost-plus.

Plans ready?

If you already have an approved plan set, send it over. We return a line-item bid you can compare to any other builder’s.

Where we build in the Bay Area

Custom homes, whole-home remodels and additions on the Peninsula and in the South Bay, plus San Luis Obispo, Monterey and Santa Barbara counties.

FAQ

Common questions

Something else on your mind? Call Michael at 805.712.8993.

Can you work with my architect?

Yes. Most Saratoga homes are drawn by an outside architect, and we price and build from those plans. We can also review drawings for cost before design review or the building permit.

Do you build teardown rebuilds in Saratoga?

Yes. Teardown rebuilds and major remodels on existing lots are a large part of high-end work in Saratoga.

How do you handle the distance from Paso Robles?

We plan reviews, inspections and subcontractor scheduling up front and staff the job for the drive.

How do we start?

Call or send the form with the address and a few notes. We start with a site visit and a review of any plans you have.
