What we give architects and designers
Early budget numbers during design
Send schematic or design development drawings and we put together a preconstruction budget, so your client knows where the design stands before construction documents are finished, not after.
A clear bid you can walk your client through
Every bid is line by line, with allowances called out and the scopes we still need to confirm listed plainly. Your client can see what is in the number and what is not.
Questions, not surprises
When something on the plans is unclear, we ask you during bidding. On site, we route design questions back to you instead of changing details in the field.
Credit on every project
When we share a home we built from your plans, in our project photos and on our social posts, we name you and your firm. If you prefer we do not, just tell us.
A design-build option
For clients who come to us without a designer, our in-house studio, Harrod Drafting & Design, can draw the plans. When you are the designer, your design stays yours.

Harrod Built is a licensed general contractor (CSLB #986950) based at 1345 Riverside Ave, Paso Robles. Michael and Chris Harrod lead the company, and a project manager runs each job day to day.
How it works
From plan set to signed contract
Send us what you have: a PDF set, a link, or a few sheets. Tell us where the lot is and where the design stands.
We review the set, ask our questions and send it to our subcontractors and suppliers. You get a budget or a full bid back, with the open items listed.
We walk you and your client through the number together, and look at options if the budget and the design need to meet in the middle.

Where we build
Central Coast and the Bay Area
We build custom homes, additions and whole-home remodels across San Luis Obispo County, Monterey County and Santa Barbara County, and we now take on projects in the Bay Area: the Peninsula, the South Bay and Santa Cruz.

What stage do the plans need to be at?
Any stage. Schematic or design development drawings get an early budget range with clear assumptions; a permit or construction set gets a full line-by-line bid.
How do we send plans?
Email a PDF set or a download link to michael@harrodbuilt.com, or call 805.712.8993 and we will tell you what we need.
Do you build only from your own designs?
No. We bid and build from outside architects’ and designers’ plans. Our studio, Harrod Drafting & Design, is an option for clients who do not have a designer yet.
Will you credit our firm?
Yes. When we show a home built from your plans, we name your firm in our photos and posts unless you ask us not to.
Do you work in the Bay Area?
Yes. Along with San Luis Obispo, Monterey and Santa Barbara counties, we now take on projects on the Peninsula, in the South Bay and in Santa Cruz.
